The Ribera i Valldigna Consortium has been created to provide the domestic waste treatment service and the management of ecoparks in the 51 municipalities and 3 minor local entities attached.
With its creation, it responds to the planning of the Generalitat in matters of urban waste, which indicates which are the municipalities that have to manage in common their waste, while fulfilling the obligation that each municipality has to treat and eliminate the home waste.
In order to finance this service, the Consorcio has established a treatment fee, therein, ensuring controlled and responsible waste management with absolute fiscal transparency. The bill shows the actual cost of treatment of waste generated from an average home in each of the populations.
Likewise, in order to make the most of the resources contained in the waste of our homes, the Consorcio has a treatment plant in Guadassuar. It is a plant whose management was ceded by the Provincial Council to the consortium on January 1, 2010. In its facilities materials are recovered to recycle them and compost is made with the organic fraction.
In addition, the Consorcio has been taking charge of the existing ecoparks in Ribera and Valldigna, and currently provides a service for collecting special household waste (demolition of minor works, old furniture, frets, unused electrical appliances) in XX installations.
We are also managing the municipal waste of La Ribera and Valldigna guaranteeing maximum respect for the local environment and at a lower cost than our neighbours. However, we can still improve our work, and we have plans to do so. Among others, we want to highlight a series of improvements that have already begun.
Firstly, at present, the Consorcio plant must transport waste that cannot be used more than 130 km, where the nearest landfill is located with environmental capacity and guarantees. Therefore, the Consorcio is processing the construction of the regional council that will reduce the economic and environmental cost of the treatment of these wastes.
On the other hand, in the plant of Guadassuar, the composting facilities of the organic fraction have been recently renovated, and have the best technology available. That’s what we’re going to redo the material selection part, built 20 years ago. With this investment, the plant will be able to recycle more and better.
Finally, the ecoparks that we currently manage were created to provide service to their municipality and there are also municipalities of the Consortium without service. In addition, the cost of ecoparks for the neighbours of small municipalities is high enough and each population has different service characteristics. Therefore, the fact of managing in common the entire network of municipalities, sharing the use of all ecoparks by all neighbors and making mobile facilities in order to reach municipalities that do not have them, will make it possible, from 2011, to provide a quality service, more economical and more next to the neighbor.
